Whilst our international travel plans were reluctantly put on hold in 2020, the itch to travel is stronger than ever. You’d be forgiven for thinking your European holiday dreams are a long way gone – but we think we’ve found the next best thing and it's right here in the Rural City of Wangaratta!

With its rolling alpine landscape, endless vineyards and quaint country towns, the King Valley serves up a little slice of Italy. Home to many generations of Italian migrant families that specialise in all things from cool climate wines to house-made gnocchi, this hidden gem is the next best thing to la dolce vita without the hassle of a long-haul flight and some serious damage to your bank balance.

From authentic Italian cooking classes to the Prosecco Road experience, the King Valley showcases a delightful combination of bubbles, authentic Italian cuisine and picturesque scenery to rival any Tuscan vista.

“It was always my dream to introduce Prosecco to Australia, it was such a big part of my family life in Italy” says Otto Dal Zotto, owner of Dal Zotto Wines, one of the most renowned wineries in the region. “Now with so much love for Prosecco in Australia, the dream has come true and I feel like I have a much bigger family now…Salute!”

Prosecco Road

Dubbed Australia’s home of Prosecco, the delectable Prosecco Road comprises a number of wonderful wineries including the iconic Brown Brothers, Pizzini Wines, Sam Miranda, Dal Zotto and Chrismont Wines to name a few.

A region renowned for its seasonal, fresh produce, the King Valley has certainly earnt its stripes when it comes to fine dining, with many of the cellar doors along Prosecco Road offering in-house dining experiences, including the Dal Zotto Wines Trattoria.

A menu filled with fresh, seasonal ingredients, the Dal Zotto Trattoria offers all things from house made gnocchi to delicious pizzas and pastas as well as deserts. Take it all in with the picturesque natural scenery, you may have just found yourselves the ultimate hospitality experience.

Adventure and more

Far beyond just a simple glass of wine, fine food, and breath taking scenery, the Prosecco Road experience offers cooking and cocktail classes, hot air ballooning, guided walks, glamping and outdoor adventures, making it perfect for a girl’s getaway, romantic escape or just a relaxing break from the daily grind. The region is also a stones throw away from some of Australia’s premier natural attractions, from the Alpine National Park and the King River, so be sure to pack some walking shoes and your bicycle!

For those with a passion for adventure, be sure to try the Pedal 2 Prosecco trail, starting from the Dal Zotto Wines and tasting your way from cellar door to cellar door.

The King Valley region is the perfect place to experience the many wonderful features of North East Victoria. From fine dining and wine tasting experiences, to scenic hikes and cycling trails, be sure to add the King Valley region to your travelling bucket list.
